Cybervetting is the widespread practice of employers culling information from social media and/or other internet sources to screen and select job candidates. Research evaluating online screening is still in its infancy; that which exists often assumes that it offers value and utility to employers as long as they can avoid discrimination claims. Given the increasing prevalence of cybervetting, it is extremely important to probe its challenges and limitations. We seek to initiate a discussion about the negative consequences of online screening and how they can be overcome. We draw on previous literature and our own data to assess the implications of cybervetting for three key stakeholders: job candidates, hiring agents, and organizations. We also discuss future actions these stakeholders can take to manage and ameliorate harmful outcomes of cybervetting. We argue that it is the responsibility of the organizations engaged in cybervetting to identify specific goals, develop formal policies and practices, and continuously evaluate outcomes so that negative societal consequences are minimized. Should they fail to do so, professional and industry associations as well as government can and should hold them accountable.

Summary
Introduction
Research is being published at an ever-increasing rate and it is becoming more and more difficult for systematic reviewers to find research in a timely way and keep existing reviews updated as new studies are published (Bastian, Glasziou and Chalmers, 2010). This is a particular problem for organizations which maintain libraries of systematic reviews, such as Cochrane and the Campbell Collabor ation, as the more systematic reviews they publish, the greater the burden of maintenance. It is also a challenge for guideline-producing org - anizations which, for pragmatic reasons, typically invest significant resources and effort in one-off periodic updates without knowing whether the evidence base has changed or has actually changed so rapidly that more frequent updating would have been warranted. Previous work has shown that systematic reviews can date very quickly, with some out of date as soon as they are published (Shojania et al., 2007). It is becoming clear that our current methods of research curation are wasteful of societal investment in research and risk resulting in suboptimal outcomes (MacLeod et al., 2014).
This chapter is concerned with this problem of ‘data deluge’ and the need to establish better surveillance of research in order to keep abreast of new developments. It is thus related to work on living systematic reviews (LSRs), and these are ‘continually updated, incorporating relevant new evidence as it becomes available’ (Elliott et al., 2014; Elliott et al., 2017). The chapter outlines developments in automation technologies that are already making the systematic review process more efficient and then focuses on the way that global research curation systems are organised. The chapter suggests that new approaches are needed in order to support the production of evidence syntheses in efficient and timely ways. Case studies 9.1 and 9.2 explain how these new developments are being put into practice to realise these benefits.
Discussion
New ways of working that integrate and capitalise on automation are necessary to tackle the growing burden of identifying and synthesising research. New technologies – which range from the mundane (such as identifying duplicates in bibliographic records) to full artificial intelligence (AI) systems – are under constant development and are already assisting various aspects of the evidence curation (see Tip below) and discovery process.

In September 2006, we investigated a cluster of 9 patients who developed Enterococcus gallinarum infection after total knee arthroplasty. Isolates recovered from these patients were from the same outbreak strain. Although all 9 patients were monitored by the same healthcare personnel, were given spinal anesthesia, and had the same specific type of wound irrigation procedure performed during their hospitalization, the source or sources of these infections were not identified.

The literature reveals greater emphasis on the causes and consequences of child abuse than on its prevention. A field study in an Australian capital city shows that while substantial amounts of information and services for people experiencing problems with parenting exist in the community, access to these sources is problematic. Improvements in efficiency or increases in funding will not, by themselves resolve the problem and strategies to change the more fundamental problem of public denial of the problem of child abuse will be required.

In order to improve attempts at the prevention of child abuse, a large scale program to change community attitudes and behaviours is required. An approach based on the Yale model of persuasion is described. The particular messages to be promoted are discussed with an emphasis on positive rather than punitive messages. Alternatives to officialdom for making contact and for delivery of assistance to carers under stress are seen as desirable, including additional programs at local neighbourhood level. A series of recommendations which reflect principles known to be effective in changing attitudes and behaviour is made.
